Description

PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE  2026 COMMUNITY PROJECT GRANT. THE APPLICATION WILL BE "OPEN" FOR ADMINISTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY UNTIL 10/24/25. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT A NEW APPLICATION.  

About the Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Community Project Grant

Individuals, non-profit organizations, and municipalities are invited to apply for a Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Community Project Grant, up to $3,000, for projects providing an enhancement of arts and culture and provide community benefit. Religious Organizations may apply for public and non-religious activities that have a reach beyond the organizations population.  Fundraisers are not eligible for funding. Examples of fundraisers are: Artist fees, events or programs directly supporting a specific cause or organization. Artist fees, events or programs that may be free and open to the public that were created to raise funds (through sponsorships for ex.) for a specific cause or organization. Funding for art or design fees for a fundraiser. (ex. artwork or music).  K-12 schools may apply but  projects must have a strong community benefit and meet criteria. Support solely for the benefit of school and student populations will not be considered.

The goal of the Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Community Project Grant is to provide high-quality arts and culture experiences that show significant benefit to the community and enhance the cultural landscape. Project must take place in Lackawanna County, but applicants may reside outside the state.

Mural projects are not eligible for this funding stream. If you are applying for a mural project, contact the Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Department to request a mural application.

One letter of support is required but applicants may submit up to 3. To streamline this process in the application you will be asked for a supporters email(s) and a form will be emailed to your contact to fill out.

The funding allows for artist fees, project manager or staff fees, supplies, marketing, purchase of technology for programming, rental fees.

The following are not eligible for funding from this grant: awards, hospitality (food, alcohol), support of staff time not related to the project and religious activities with inherent religious purposes such as worship, instruction, etc.

Projects will be reviewed by a panel and selected using the following criteria.

Artistic/Cultural Strength of Project

Artistic/cultural/historical quality of product or program shows high value. Artist/Cultural Producers demonstrate expertise and experience. Project enhances the cultural life for residents of Lackawanna County.

Community Benefit

Project has significant benefit for general public and/or specific targeted group(s)Project engages traditionally underrepresented or underserved demographics/groups. Project supports/involves local artist(s) or other cultural producers. There is evidence of a strong marketing plan and/or community outreach. Project shows inclusiveness toward persons with disabilities.

Administration

The scope of the project is reasonable and well-planned. Application shows a clear budget with evidence of fiscal responsibility. Goals of project are well-defined and measurable.

As the goal of the Lackawanna County Arts and Culture Department is to ensure access to the arts for all county residents and provide opportunities for local artists and cultural producers the geographical locations of projects and residency of applicants within the county will be considered in the review process.
